1st Tour - Sep 1994 - Southern California, Nevada and Arizona.
Sante Fe Springs (Masters of Harmony), Southern California.
This tour started with a fantastic reception at Los Angeles airport by our first hosts, the Santa Fe Springs Chapter, who were singing ‘Consider yourself at home’ as we came through the arrival gates.
Our party numbered 60 which included 24 singers and 36 family members. We were treated to fabulous hospitality during our five day stay, visiting Disneyland, Universal Studios and Hollywood as well as many other famous attractions
For this visit we took along a television crew from Westcountry television who were making a documentary of our visit to the International Champions, the Masters of Harmony.
At that time Dr. Greg Lyne was directing the Masters of Harmony and the KINGSMEN performed on their ‘Fall’ show in front of a 3,000 audience at the Long Beach theatre. We sang two joint numbers at the end of the show and it was the most amazing experience for our young chorus which had been formed only three years earlier and for our Musical Director, Roy Hann who conducted the joint chorus of 150 men.
When it was time to leave there was hardly a dry eye to be seen. We had truly been in the company of champions in every sense of the word, who had treated us to the most gracious and generous hospitality for five wonderful days.
Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon
We travelled by coach to ‘ Whiskey Pete’s’ on the state border and had our first taste of the gambling casinos and bright lights. We then travelled on to Las Vegas, ‘the city of lights’ the next day in our air-conditioned coach.
We were completely enthralled by the size and excitement of the place. We stayed in the fabulous Sam’s Town hotel for three nights and had a wonderful evening with the Las Vegas chapter and their chorus the ‘Gamble-Aires’.
We then travelled via the Hoover Dam to the town of Williams. There we spent the night before spending a day at the awesome Grand Canyon. We took the opportunity to sing on the rim of the Grand Canyon in full stage uniforms, much to the delight of the many tourists at the attraction.
Sedona and Phoenix , Arizona
Next stop was to Phoenix, via the beautiful town of Sedona, to meet up with our next hosts from the Phoenix Chapter and to perform with the ‘Fabulous Phoenicians’ under the direction of Gary Steinkamp on a specially arranged show.
We then returned via Palm Springs to Los Angeles, where to our complete surprise and delight, we were met once again by our Masters of Harmony Hosts to bid us a final farewell before taking the flight home after fourteen memorable days. |
