A small group (named K2) of twenty Kingsmen directed by Kingsmen Deputy Music Director Gary Rowe competed in the annual Saltash Music Festival and came away again with the trophy for the fourth year in succession with a distinction, a mark of 87% and glowing comments from the adjudicator Jeffrey Wynn Davies quote:

"A foot tapping opening (Breaking Up Is Hard To Do) with clear, precise rhythm and texture and solid balance. Well done. Second song 'May I Never Love Again' - not a dry eye in the house! An impressive 20 piece chorus! Thank you!"
Gary directed the combined men's and women's choruses and choirs at the end of the evening with a lively rendition of 'Let's Get Together Again'!

A Kingsmen quartet called 'Enigma' (Barrington Sowden-bass, Peter Goodliffe - tenor, Dave Griffiths - lead and Gary Rowe - baritone) stepped up at the last minute to perform in the male quartet competition after one of the guys in 'Razorsharp' quartet took ill and had to withdraw from the competition. 'Enigma' put in a very good performance under the circumstances with excellent comments from the adjudicator. So well done to them.

This shows the diversity of the Kingsmen that they can call on other quartets to fill the breach!

And nine Kingsmen and their wives make up an a cappella group called 'Crewmates' who have been together for just over two years, entered the mixed choir competition. They just lost out to Green Valley Harmony (Exeter) with a creditable performance of their latest two songs 'Say A Little Prayer' and 'Caravan of Love'.

All in all a fantastic evening of close harmony singing from everyone who took part, finishing with a lively and fun 'afterglow' in the Brunel Inn.
